Jessie at Plot 37
United Kingdom
Приєднався 15 лис 2019
Hello! My name is Jessie Sheffield, I live in the UK and I have been Vlogging from an Allotment (Vegetable Garden) in SW London since the Covid-19 lockdown started in April 2020.
The VLOGS are out on a Tuesday at 4.30pm GMT (Mondays for Patreons) and cover weekly goings on at the Allotment and in life in general. You'll find mostly veg growing but might have a bathroom renovation, a trip to the pub (very likely) and/or a day out to Kew Gardens thrown in. Its a Vlog after all.
The faces are generally Me (Jessie), my Mum (Kathleen), 4 Pekin Bantam hens (Ruby, Florence, Valery and Margo) and the fluffiest Allotment Cat ever (Lily).
I am also a regular contributor to The Potty Mouth Garden Club podcast/video!
Happy gardening,
Jessie. xx

Upstate NY Zone 6B Jesse and Mom you guys always motivate me to get off my butt. I love your organization and planning. I see the things you are battling and I think about the things I'm battling but we keep pushing on. Peace and Blessings 😊
Put bottles over them..
Jessie, if you manage to hang a floating shelf inside the greenhouse, it will help you to keep your little brassicas out of reach of the hungry slugs.
Your allotment looks amazing ,I try growing spring onions every year but no success, and I have allotments over my fence and they have whoppers, I got an plot and still nothing ,I don't no what I'm doing wrong .loving your vids thankyou so much for sharing .
I thought grape vines bled to death if you prune them in the summer. I've been braving the February weather to prune mine for years, I've been a fool!
New subscribers here, and new allotment owner (?!) (Steward, perhaps?). Have been bingewatching your back content. The most engaging and informative stuff I have yet found on UA-cam. Thanks very much.
Here in the Netherlands same problems. Bad germination, weather, slugs .. 😏 Flowers doing great! 😊 Fingers crossed for the rest of the season. 🐝🌷🦔😊
Time for some suspended shelves in your greenhouse and some sort of protective collar around your planted seedlings methinks Jessie. Would collars made from sandpaper stop slugs?
The very old plot holders on my allotment, use dried boxes of peas that you can buy for cooking every year and get a fantastic crop. Cheap hack.❤
So, why is it again, you don't use organic slug bait? I think Bonide makes it>
Hello Jessie, do you find that there is a shortage of seed potatoes to buy in the UK this year or to buy online. I have seen a lot of out of stock on potato websites. Your garden videos are great. Thanks
Hi Jess another great video, just a quick question due to a mix of other commitments health issues and up till now at least crappy weather I've not done anything in the garden so do you think it's too late now to sow runner's etc not even going to think about toms starting off some lettuce and spring onions and other salad things
I thought rocket would just bolt really quickly at this time of year so I've not bothered sowing any. I was just planning on waiting until August to get some going for Autumn.
hi jess have u got the link for the wire many thanks x
I’d net your cherry if you want to get to eat them
Gardening woes and gardening wows. The sole purpose of any garden is to hand out both pain and pleasure in roughly equally amounts
Slugs and no Red and Black currents here either Cologne Germany,
Hello My Jessie Babe. You are shining so beautiful in the Sun. I Love You.
I too experienced a not so great gardening season this year because of weather and pests and other things that had to be done . First year I haven't got any zinnias or basil and a few other things growing. But, on the bright side , the other plants are growing 😊 win some lose some this year. Always hope for next year 😉 ❤🍻
Hiya Jess, thanks for sharing I’m just catching up with some of your videos. Take care Luv. Hi to Muma blessings from Ontario Canada 🐝🇨🇦
What do you do with Red Currants? Cheers, Rachel PS Net your cherries?
Greetings, Heatdome here...100° No way could I wear two tops and jeans! The humidity has been a demon 🤬 Cheers, Upstate NY
7:58 Lychnis is amazing. With it's dull grey green foliage and it's popping red/pink flowers it always seems like someone has been messing with the image saturation filters to me - even when I see it in real life it makes me feel this. Btw - I noticed some of your nigella flowers are white. Is thar just a different variety or some of the flowers just losing their colour? Or have you grown some nigella sativa (aka Kalonji) in there too? I have loads of standard Love In Mist Nigella Damascena that self seed every year but I'd quite like to have the Nigella Sativa which has white flowers and looks similar. I'd like to grow them to collect seeds for making naan and other Indian dishes.
My redcurrants are loaded down with fruit, i usually have to fight the birds off to grab some, mainly pigeon and blackbird food
A satisfying garden day nevertheless. Have you ever made pesto with your arugula? Parsley also works well. But I tried fennel fern pesto today. Sort of flavorless to me.
53:54 Are you sure it's not just your potatoes are ready to harvest? We did have the warmest May on record with good overnight temperatures. I was disappointed to see some of my potatoes yellowing and I was expecting lots of small potatoes maybe with some rotting under the soil but actually I had a good harvest. The potatoes were just ready early.
If it’s any consolation, my North Star cherry tree has THOUSANDS of cherries on it but due to all the excessive rain & humidity, 70% of them are moldy the rest are black. Only a beauty here & there. I don’t even want to walk near it! Damn health hazard, it’s just very depressing. Even the birds & critters won’t visit to steal cherries. When they drop it’s gonna be ICKY.
Our redcurrants were disappointing this year too. Thought it might’ve been because we didn’t prune last winter. Raspberries are prolific after the spring rains and for the first time in years have largely ripened all at once in this sunshine enabling bulk processing as canned whole raspberries and jelly-cordial rather than drip feeding into the freezer. Those loganberries look amazing!! 😍
Do you have water in your kitchen? So looking forward to your cooking lessons!😊❤
My wife is in love with your sweater with the yellow flowers! Do you remember where it came from? I wanted to surprise her with one. No worries if you don’t. Cheers to you and your garden!
Nope, no strawberries for me, must be the chemicals they r bombarding us.
I feel you! Slugs are an extra terror this year, mild winter, wet spring, ugh! No redcurrants either here in NW Ireland, lots of raspberries, first time having cherries on my tree, but they are falling off???!!! My grapevine is doing well, also thinned it out. We plod on...;)
Loved the flowers. Loved the fruits tour, you make eating the item good looking. Have a good week.
The fruits trees and flowers are woow ❤ love watching your channel 😊
Very sorry to hear your brassica saga…I had something similar…and visited the garden centre last week…no vegetables seedlings left at all!
👍👍
Farmers and gardener are truly gluttons for punishment 😅
Great to see that the Jinxy beans have thrived so far😀😀😀…mine looking a bit sluggish/pigeony😱😱😱…🤞🤞🤞Jinxy
I've got some already rooted Taunton Deane perennial kale cuttings going spare if you need something perennial in your brassica cage. Just let me know how to post them to you
Field beans…I,ve been eating them😀. Large pods are podded, little finger sized pods used whole….with onion, garlic and a tin of toms…yummy on toast😀😀😀
Your cherry looks really good - mine had a lot more on this year compared to a handful that fell off last year, but mine seems to be attacked by blackfly on the leaves. I only got to try 1 cherry though! The rest either got blown off by the storms we had or eaten by birds. Still, only had the tree 2.5 years so early days
I am told that the secret to getting a cherry harvest is to have so many cherries that the birds can't possibly eat them all. So, plant an orchard. Or you could net the tree, I suppose.
My peas are now coming out of the pea cage, I can stand up in the cage and I am 6ft tall, I have Telephone, Hurst Green Shaft, Champion of England and in large tubs American Dwarf , best peas I have ever grown. French beans not doing well , had 3 sowings only got 9 plants so far out in ground. Planted out caulis and cabbage under nets this week, got brussels and swede to go out, sorry. Still have sparra grass coming up although there are masses of ferns, growing onions in window boxes this year and they are looking good after last years disaster. Lidl window boxes are great with a built in water level gauge, will get some more if they have them next year and not expensive.
The cherries in my home garden are all always eaten by the birds 😡 but I do get fair amount of cherries from allotment (it’s a massive tree) . I have gooseberries black currants which are way too much to eat but on my red currant there must be one or two strings of red fruit. Not sure what’s the matter with red currants, I haven’t seen white currants either in any of the plots at my allotment.
hi jess i planted some tomarto plants was growing great then all the leaves are dieing off eny clue what it could be thanks steve
Just put fleece over our cherry tree today as I kept finding cherry seeds on grass and realised what was happening. Its only about 6ft high so easier than a big tree. Oh and apart from cosmos seedlings slugged, had to rescue 2 dahlias from a bed that were just lacey skeletons. Lettuces fine tho !?!? Love the vlogs Jesse. 😊
I got inspired by you and your noodles with different greens. I'm at the moment enjoying a bowl of noodles with fresh broccoli, picked 2 hours ago 😍😍 Happy me 😂❤
South of Berlin here. Red currants had been really well this year because of the rain (that is what I don´t understand with your plots, you seemed to have even a bit more), however we have slug-geddon, therefore a few things are struggeling , too. Again, I can recomment the japanese wineberry. (from the potty mouth chat, i do really love it).
Allotment is looking great Jessie, jealous of how much space you have 😭
I've had the same issue with cherries, I only have a baby tree, had a bunch of 4 blushing beautifully, this morning vanished! However, strawberries and raspberries are going great, even with the woodlice tucking in to the strawberries too. Lemon drop chillies seem to be going fine, and I harvested my first burpless cucumber today. Potatoes look ok so far too. My climbing beans have begun their accent as well, so it's just fingers crossed for the 21 tomato plants of various varieties (a few more than I had planned). Remember the small wins. Thank you again for the ongoing fab content
